A total of 153 children, single mothers and special adults from six charity homes based in the Klang Valley recently received food supplies worth over RM13,000 and morale support from OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) and Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Parkcity.

This was part of their joint effort to help the local community overcome the difficulties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The joint special relief programme was aimed supporting the needy from the charity organisations namely Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ann’s Cottage, Bethesda House Care Centre, Persatuan Kebajikan dan Social Kim Loo Ting, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Siri Jayanti Metta Care Centre, Ti-Ratana Buddist Society Bangsar and Persatuan Kebajikan OKU Hati Berganda Selangor.

In the lead up to the handing over and gathering at the charity organisations, held at the Dewan Persatuan Penduduk Taman Menjalara in Kepong, OCBC Bank staff from its Rawang branch banded together to get the materials packed for distribution.

According to Lions Club Kuala Lumpur Parkcity President Mr Alex Gan Kim Hock the collaboration with OCBC Bank was a natural one as they have collaborated in community efforts over the past few years.

“We are grateful to OCBC Bank through their Rawang branch for their relentless support and commitment to assist the community amidst the difficulties arising from Covid-19 and to encourage them to strive on as single mothers and to bring cheer to these children. We were happy to see the smile on their faces and pleased to have done our little part to help our community,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of OCBC Bank, its Rawang branch Senior Manager Ms Lim Chai Har said the Bank continues to strive to be more involved in the localities in which it operates and to become even more engaged in the community, going beyond simply providing superior banking products and services to meeting the social needs of the people as well.

“In the past few months, the social and economic effect of the global pandemic is hard for many and so we wanted to reach out to support our community, particularly those who have been deeply affected. We are thankful to Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Parkcity for being part of this relief programme. We hope our little contribution will help them tide through these challenging times. I’m pleased also with the fine teamwork of my colleagues from our Rawang branch who came together to pack the goodies and add to the merriment at the gathering,” she said.
