In the spirit of Christmas, singers from Dignity for Children Foundation (Dignity) yesterday mesmerised the public with their angelic voices and enthusiastic spirit when they belted out some of the best-loved traditional Christmas carols at the busy foyer of Menara OCBC, Jalan Tun Perak.

To the delight of the staff, customers and even tourists who were in the vicinity, they delivered their melodious takes on staples such as Angels We Have Heard On High, O Come All Ye Faithful and Feliz Navidad.

Present to lend support to the merry atmosphere was OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad CEO Dato’ Ong Eng Bin who, along with several staff members, later hosted the group to a sumptuous lunch at a hotel nearby.

The Bank staff also made a financial contribution to Dignity in their effort to bring more children back to school in 2020.

Dignity is a non-governmental organisation that provides holistic care and education for urban poor children in Kuala Lumpur. It currently serves over 1,700 children and youth aged 1-18 years.

Other than operating education programmes in Sentul, Dignity also supports other community schools working with poor children in South East Asia through its community-school start-up and teachers’ training programmes.

Dato’ Ong said he was overwhelmed by the uplifting music, melody and harmony that had turned the Bank’s premises into what he called a convergence of everyday life with a gentle stirring of the soul.

“Christmas is a time of joy. And Christmas carols have always had that ring about them that reminds us that there is hope, and that we can all be a part of this hope by being mindful of those around us.

“For the past fourteen years, including this year, we have had a staff choir sing at our premises. This year, we decided for the first time to invite guests from Dignity to share with us their own sense of joy. What a blessing this was. The children brought to us an apt reminder that joy can be multiplied when it is shared. Kudos to them for the freshness they brought to our banking hall through their angelic voices and enthusiastic spirit. Their singing, set against the backdrop of the 20-foot Christmas tree at our rotunda, made this a Christmas to remember,” he said.
