MBJB Mayor officially unveiled the route of the inaugural OCBC Cycle Johor Bahru

  • 10 Nov 2025

Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) Mayor Dato’ Haji Mohd Haffiz bin Haji Ahmad officially unveiled the route of OCBC Cycle Johor Bahru, the first-ever mass cycling event on closed roads in the heart of Johor Bahru.

Sponsored by OCBC Malaysia, the maiden edition of OCBC Cycle JB promises to excite riders of all levels with two route options - the 42-kilometre course for seasoned cyclists and a 21-kilometre route designed for recreational cyclists not yet ready for the bigger challenge.

According to the Dato’ Haji Mohd Haffiz, the inaugural mass cycling event was truly one on the cards following two successful years of the JB Car-Free Morning sessions.

“We are constantly looking for ways to up the ante, creating opportunities to promote healthy lifestyle within our community while encouraging tourism. OCBC Cycle JB is expected to draw participants from all around the globe. Based on current registrations, the event has already attracted cyclists from across the Causeway, and several other countries such as Australia, Japan, India, China, and United Kingdom. I would like to thank OCBC Malaysia for being the driving force behind this impactful initiative,” he said.

According to Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik, CEO of OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad (OCBC Al-Amin), OCBC Cycle JB 2025 aims to promote healthy living, community engagement and advocate sustainable practices.

“After eight successful editions of OCBC Cycle in Kuala Lumpur, we are thrilled to launch the inaugural OCBC Cycle JB. The enthusiastic response from the public has been truly encouraging, and we are excited to make this event a memorable experience for all participants. We also see this as a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable practices, showcase Johor Bahru as a vibrant and culturally rich city, and promote Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) through a community-driven event,” he said.

The highly anticipated event is titled sponsored by OCBC Malaysia, organised by Multigreen Events Sdn Bhd (Multigreen Events), and supported by Majlis  Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB), and Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM).

Apart from the 42km and 21km ride categories, participants may ride in the The JB Mayor’s Ride, which is the 42-kilometre corporate category for a team of ten. Children ages 3-9 will also be able to join in the fun by participating in the Kids’ Push Bike category. They have two distances to choose from: 150 metres and 200 metres. The 200-metre ride is exclusively for 7- to 9-year-olds, providing them with that extra bit of challenge to navigate.

All participants will receive a medal and digital certificate for participating, along with goodies from the sponsors.

According to En Nezzam Malek, CEO of Multigreen Events, the first-ever mass cycling event on closed roads in heart of Johor Bahru will be one that brings the community together on larger scale, beyond the 7-kilometre stretch they are used to at JB Car-Free Morning.

“We have studied participant preferences alongside route constraints and are confident that with the support of MBJB and the relevant authorities we will be having a smooth event for both locals and foreign participants from 14 countries. I would like to thank MBJB, PDRM, OCBC Bank and OCBC Al-Amin for the collaborative effort in this first-ever mass cycling ride in Johor Bahru,” he said.

OCBC Cycle JB will feature initiatives to both create awareness about recycling and to practise it, including:

•    No use of plastics or paper in participants’ cycle packs, except for the event bibs.
•    Where necessary, recyclable paper rolls or envelopes are used.
•    No bubble wrap for medals; instead, they will be placed directly around participants’ neck when they cross the finish line.
•    Recycling bins at strategic locations for collection of banana peels, which will then be sent for composting.

Apart from OCBC Malaysia being the title sponsor, other sponsors of OCBC Cycle JB include Brompton, Decathlon, POS Malaysia, Sports World and N8.
