OCBC Bank launches OCBC 90°N visa card for travellers

  • 14 Aug 2023

With travel firmly back on the itinerary for many Malaysians, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) has launched the OCBC 90°N Visa Card that rewards travellers in the ways they most appreciate.

Although travel-themed, the Card extends to encompass other popular reward types as well, including points for everyday spending which can be viewed and redeemed as cashback on anything via OCBC Internet Banking or the OCBC Malaysia Mobile Banking.

With every ringgit spent using the OCBC 90°N Visa Card, cardmembers earn reward points called Travel$. For every ringgit spent domestically they earn 1 Travel$, with the rewards points increasing to 5 Travel$ for the same amount spent overseas.

Other benefits include complimentary Plaza Premium lounge access at KLIA and klia2 in the first year, and RM1 million in travel insurance coverage that includes death and permanent disablement.

According to Ms Anne Leh, Managing Director & Head of Consumer Financial Services of OCBC Bank the return of travel in people’s itineraries along with the popularity of rebates and rewards makes the OCBC 90°N Visa Card a “must have.”

OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad Managing Director and Head of Consumer Financial Services Ms Anne Leh and Head of Consumer Lifestyle Finance Mr Lee Kim Seong rolling out the Bank’s travel-themed Visa card - OCBC 90°N Visa Card for Travellers

“Statistically, the growing popularity of travel in Malaysia cannot be denied. According to the Global Travel Insight report from Visa, a full recovery is expected for the global travel and tourism industry three years after the pandemic. Asia Pacific monthly outbound travel was forecasted to match its 2019 levels as early as July 2023, the report states, which is about now. Overall, overseas credit card expenditure amongst our cardmembers has also exceeded the pre-pandemic levels of 2019, and we continue to see strong growth in this category. The OCBC 90°N Visa Card is well placed to gain acceptance among Malaysian travellers,” she said.

Ms Leh added that common pain points that cardmembers face include the difficulty of keeping track of points balances, the tedious redemption process, and the limitations of redeeming travel-related rewards only. Another is that complimentary access to the airport lounge is restricted to the cardholder, thus denying complimentary access to accompanying guests.

“To address this, the OCBC 90°N Visa Card allows users to easily log into OCBC Internet Banking or the OCBC Malaysia Mobile Banking app to view their available Travel$ balance and perform a redemption as cashback on anything they desire - a key feature that will give cardmembers greater flexibility in redeeming their Travel$, as the redemption is not restricted to only certain airmiles, hotels or vouchers. This also provides greater convenience and transparency in relation to their available Travel$ balance. All Travel$ earned using the credit card have an expiry date of 5 years, which is longer than the industry norm of 3 years. On top of that, cardmembers can share their complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge access at KLIA and klia2 with an accompanying guest,” she said.

Welcome offers await first-time OCBC Credit Card customers with, for a limited time only, the first 3,000 successful applicants (from 7 August 2023) getting to enjoy an exclusive LED edition of the card which lights up every time contactless payments are made.

First-time OCBC credit card customers also enjoy a welcome offer of up to RM300 in travel rewards which include bonus Travel$ to accelerate cashback redemption as well as discounts on Grab Rides and travel excursions booking on Klook when they successfully apply for and spend a minimum of RM1,500 with the card. This Campaign runs until 31 October 2023.

The annual fee is waived for the first year for first-time OCBC Credit Card customers.
