Menara OCBC now equipped with Electric Vehicle Chargers

  • 12 Sep 2022
Menara OCBC, headquarters to OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) for the past seventeen years, is now equipped with two Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargers as part of its commitment to sustainability and to promote climate-friendly practices.

The Chargers were installed by Petaling Jaya-based EV Connection Sdn Bhd (EVC), a pioneer in the electric vehicle charging infrastructure and solution provider established in 2016. EVC is a registered electrical contractor with Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) Malaysia and a certified EV charger installer by TUV Rheinland.

According to EVC Managing Director Ir. Lee Yuen How, the facilities at the basement carpark are a relative scarcity in the city centre, which makes the initiative welcome news to EV users.

“We are delighted to collaborate with OCBC Bank to avail this facility to the community to encourage more Malaysians to switch to EVs. The service would be of particular benefit to those around the Masjid Jamek area or anyone passing through and in need to recharge their vehicles, not to mention those who work at the building,” he said.

Unveiling the two 22-Kilowatt AC Chargers, CEO of OCBC Bank Dato’ Ong Eng Bin said the Bank looks forward to both staff and members of the public using the facilities extensively.

“We hope to see even more people considering switching to EVs now since a key issue has always been the lack of charging stations. Our move represents one more step toward removing the obstacles and we hope more organisations will consider installing EV Chargers as well.

“As a banking group with 90 years of giving to our communities and as we celebrate the milestone this year, OCBC Bank looks forward to enabling individuals, SMEs and businesses to build a more sustainable future in as many ways as possible,” he said.

The EV Chargers are available for use from 6am to 10pm on weekdays and from 6am to 6pm on weekends at RM3.00 per hour in addition to the usual parking charges. To activate the EV Chargers, users need only to download the JomCharge app available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
