OCBC Al-Amin Bank is consulted by five Shariah scholars who specialise in various fields of contemporary Islamic knowledge.

Profile of OCBC Al-Amin Shariah Committee (SC) Members


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Asmadi bin Haji Abdullah (Shariah Committee Member)
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Asmadi was appointed as Shariah Committee of OCBC Al-Amin in April 2014. He holds a Ph.D from University of Durham, UK. In addition, he also holds a Master of Comparative Laws from International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). He obtained his double Degree in LLB (Bachelor of Laws) and LLB.S (Bachelor of Shariah) from the same University.

He is currently the Head of Department of Islamic Law, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His specialised areas are Islamic law of Property, Transactions, Banking and Takaful as well as comparative laws. He has vast experience in teaching for postgraduate as well as undergraduate in various courses such as Introduction to Usul al-Fiqh, Law of Succession (Fara`id), Islamic Law of Transactions (Fiqh al-Muamalat), Islamic Legal System and Islamic Constitutional Law.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Asmadi had previously served as the Shariah Committee member with OSK Investment Bank until April 2013. He also currently serves as a Shariah Committee member of AIA Public Takaful Bhd.




Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Naim bin Omar (Shariah Committee Member)
Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naim was appointed as Shariah Committee of OCBC Al-Amin in June 2011. He holds a Ph.D from University of Wales, United Kingdom (specialised in the Islamic Law), MA (Shariah Law) from Cairo University and BA (Hons) Shariah Law from University of al-Azhar, Egypt.

He is currently a lecturer at Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His areas of interest among others, cover Islamic Law of Transaction, Islamic Legal System and Islamic Jurisprudence.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naim has presented and published numerous articles and papers on many subjects especially in his areas of interest, which are Islamic Transaction Law, Islamic Wealth Management and Islamic Law of Contract.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naim also currently serves as Group Shariah Committee member of MNRB Holdings Berhad and a Shariah Committee of Lembaga Zakat Selangor.




Prof. Dato' Dr. Wan Sabri bin Wan Yusof (Shariah Committee Member)
Prof. Dato' Dr. Wan Sabri was appointed as Shariah Committee of OCBC Al-Amin in June 2011. He holds a Ph.D and Master of Arts from Temple University, USA (specialising in Islamic Thought and Comparative Religion). He also holds a Master of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (IRKH) (specialising in Tafsir) and Bachelor of (Economic) Islamic Economics from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

He is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS). His main areas of interest are Islamic Economic, Islamic Thought and Comparative Religion and Ethics. He has published numerous articles and books among others monograph on prominent Muslim scholars in this region, Issue in Islamic Thought and Tafsir (Quranic exegesis).

Prof. Dato' Dr. Wan Sabri also currently serves as a Shariah Committee member of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad. Prior to that, he was a Shariah Committee member for Southern Bank Berhad, CIMB Islamic and Alliance Bank.




Dr. Abdul Rahman bin A. Shukor (Shariah Committee Member)
Dr. Abdul Rahman A. Shukor was appointed as Shariah Committee of OCBC Al-Amin in May 2020. He graduated with Bachelor Degree in Shariah from University of al-Azhar, Egypt and obtained his Master Degree in Shariah & Economic from University of Malaya. He then obtained his PhD in Shariah & Economic from University of Malaya in 2018. He is also a registered Shariah Adviser with Securities Commission Malaysia and Shariah Committee member of MY EG Islamic Finance Sdn Bhd.

He is currently a freelance Shariah consultant and trainer for a few training firms. He has vast working experience handling Shariah review and Shariah advisory function where his last position was as Head Shariah Supervision at Al-Rajhi Bank, Malaysia. Previously, he was attached to Asian Finance Bank Berhad and CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad where during his tenure at CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, he managed the Shariah advisory for portfolio of corporate banking, treasury, structured product, private equity and sukuk.

Dr. Abdul Rahman A. Shukor previously served as a Shariah Committee member of KAF Investment Bank Berhad and KAF Equities Sdn Bhd (previously known as KAF-Seagroatt & Campbell Securities Sdn Bhd).




Mr. Faizal bin Jaffar (Shariah Committee Member)
Mr. Faizal Jaffar was appointed as Shariah Committee of OCBC Al-Amin in May 2020. He holds Master of Science in Islamic Finance from International Center for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) and BA (Hons) in Accountancy from University Technology MARA (UiTM). He also holds Chartered Accountant from Malaysian Institute of Accountant and was a member of Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) from Australia.

He started his career with Bank Negara Malaysia since 1986 and served for 33 years until his retirement in 2019. He was first attached to Finance department handling treasury settlement, budgeting, payment settlement and accounting system development. He was then promoted to Islamic Banking and Takaful Department where his last position was as Deputy Director of Islamic Banking and Takaful Department. During his tenure at BNM, he had led various initiatives to formulate sound and robust regulatory and prudential policies for Islamic banking industry, covering financial and Shariah policies. He also developed and oversaw the implementation of strategies and policies to ensure talent institutions for Islamic finance continue to be efficient, effective and dynamic to meet the increasing talent demand in the sector.
