OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad (OCBC Al-Amin) recently collaborated with Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LSZ) in its inaugural Zakat distribution programme to provide aid to needy students.

Staff of OCBC Al-Amin, led by CEO of OCBC Al-Amin Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik, worked hand in hand with LZS to provide essential school supplies to 150 needy students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Puchong Indah. The objective of the “Back to School” programme is to ease the financial burden on students from B40 families.

Speaking on behalf of LZS, its Head of Distribution Operations for the Petaling District, En Muhammad Syahril bin Ritin, said, “Through this programme, we are pleased to have helped a total of 150 students from low-income households at Sekolah Kebangsaan Puchong Indah, Selangor by providing much-needed school supplies, including backpacks, stationery, food containers, and sports bottles.  We are grateful for the participation of OCBC Al-Amin staff. It was great to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they received the additional pocket money,” he said.

According to Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz the programme was another meaningful initiative by the Bank in the month of Ramadan.

“This collaboration is an important step to ensure that our zakat contributions are channelled to those who truly need it, and we hope that this will inspire all parties to link arms to empower everyone across the country. We are thankful to LSZ for providing us with the opportunity to play our part in bringing cheer to these students. I would also like to thank my colleagues who volunteered in conducting a financial literacy session for the students as well so they can better understand wealth management from an early age,” he said.

Earlier this month, OCBC Al-Amin tied up with Masjid Jamek to spread goodwill through the act of sharing on the first day of Ramadan. The Bank, led by Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz, has been doing so for the past sixteen years.

Since its establishment in December 2008, OCBC Al-Amin has remained among the top foreign Islamic banks in Malaysia, consistently placing among the top two in terms of assets since 2013.

OCBC Al-Amin offers its products and services through the 38 OCBC branches nationwide, including 7 that are standalone Islamic banking branches.
