OCBC Penang Premier Banking Centre marks 10th anniversary with a toast to customers

  • 19 Nov 2024

OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) celebrated the 10th anniversary of its OCBC Penang Premier Banking Centre with a fitting toast to its customers centred on heritage, sustainability and the arts.

The OCBC Penang Premier Banking Centre, located at Lebuh Pantai, underwent significant renovation and expansion to become the largest and grandest not just in Penang but among all such centres across the OCBC network. It was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Penang on 15 November 2014 and is reputed to be one of the largest in the country as well.

Customers and guests were feted to a variety of lifestyle activities. The grand lion dance opening sparked things off with a range of activities centred on heritage, sustainability and the arts following, including a modern EV bike showcase, stylish mocktail booth with a specially curated collection of refreshing beverages, and shoe appreciation session featuring the bespoke shoes outfit Jack Wang Gentlemen. Customers were also treated to a market outlook session and serenaded through an ethereal harp performance by Penang’s very own Dr Jessenzzth Chua completed by whisky and gin tasting sessions courtesy of Tong Woh Enterprise. The night ended on a high note with customers taking home Lucky Draw prizes sponsored by Auto Bavaria.

Mr Jeffrey Teoh, OCBC Bank’s Managing Director & Head of Wholesale Banking, expressed pride in the warm response to the Centre over the last decade.

“We are delighted to have become one with the community over the years. And while OCBC is well-regarded here in Penang among people from all walks of life for our banking services, our Premier Centre has become a fitting testament to how we embrace heritage preservation and sustainability in our undertakings. The OCBC Penang Premier Centre reflects our appreciation of the proud and rich Penang heritage that we embody.

“As Penang's largest premier banking centre, nestled at the intersection of Lebuh Pantai and Lebuh Gereja, we opened the refurbished Centre with a promise to serve the people of Penang well while upholding its heritage. Our starting point was to recognise that this august building dates back to as far as 1886, underlining the duty we have to preserving all that we are proud of,” he said.

Standing more than a whopping 8,000 square feet, the OCBC Premier Banking Centre has become recognised as one of the most stunning buildings in the vicinity. The harmonious mix of heritage and modernity in its design netted it the Singapore "Good Design Mark" Award shortly after it opened.

“This anniversary celebration serves as an opportunity for us to reflect on our journey and reaffirm our commitment to the Penang community. Our Premier Banking Centre was meticulously designed with our customers' needs in mind, ensuring we provide exceptional service in a welcoming environment.

The anniversary celebration not only marks a decade of the Premier Banking Centre's operation but also underscores our enduring commitment to the community,” Mr Teoh added.

OCBC Bank was named Malaysia’s “Bank of the Year 2023” by London-based The Banker. It is among the foremost foreign banks in Malaysia and has been in existence for over 90 years.
