Implementation of BNM's New Cheque Truncation & Conversion System

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will implement a new Cheque Truncation and Conversion System (CTCS) with effect from 13 June 2008 to replace the existing SPICK Cheque Clearing System. The CTCS is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency in the cheque clearing process.

In compliance with this CTCS requirement, OCBC Bank has begun issuing newly designed cheques (measuring the stipulated 7 inches by 3.5 inches) for all accounts – both company and individual – effective 1 July 2007.

To ensure ease of transition to the new CTCS, we ask you to kindly adhere to the following revised guidelines effective 1 August 2007:

1. Do NOT use any company stamp or personal seal on the cheque. Cheques presented, whether of the new or previous designs, will be verified and processed regardless of the presence or absence of the company stamp or personal seal;

2. Do NOT use your thumbprint as a replacement for your signature. Kindly contact the branch where your account is maintained if you are currently using a thumbprint and they will advise you further; and

3. Use either ball point or permanent ink of dark colours (black or blue) when completing cheques.

OCBC Bank will preprint corporate customers’ company numbers on their cheques beginning 15 August 2007. In the interim, corporate customers are reminded to insert their company numbers below or next to their name on the cheque.

Please feel free to contact our Personal Banking Customer Service Officers at 1300 88 5000 or Business Banking Customer Service Officers at 1300 88 7000, if you require further clarification.

Thank you for banking with OCBC.
